New Mosquito Virus in Selangor
Yup, yet another pestilence cropping up in Klang/Selangor/Malaysia.
"Chik..what"? This arthropod borne virus, "chikungunya virus" had appeared as an outbreak recently in Selangor. It is yet another mosquito transmitted disease coming on the heel of Japanese Encephalitis, and increasing numbers of Dengue cases. One wonders, if we are doing enough to control vector-borne diseases. My frens kid kena some sort of virus...klang doctors suggesting this could be the cause. RE: New Mosquito Virus in Selangor
doctor says no cure at the moment...
just have to leave it to the kids antibody...but of course send to clinic as well lah Friends experience is that his kid got slight fever on and off. After a few days, kid woke up one morning and complained cannot walk. The legs too painful to walk. So take to GH, enter emergency ward, do blood test, all cannot determine the disease. So by next day the kid ok liow can walk around and disturb other patients. So since doctor doesnt know what happened, he attributed it to the new mosquito virus. Thats my friends experience la. So all of u just keep an eye open for funny, sudden fever. Self-defence, rock climbing, cross-country, swimming, makan makan ... RE: New Mosquito Virus in Selangor
hi beebee,
Chikungunya fever is a virus spread by the Aedes aegypti species of mosquitoes which predominantly bite during the day. The incubation period can be 2-12 days, but it's usually 3-7 days. Symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, fatigue, nausea, muscle pain, rash and joint pain. Within a few days the illness usually resolves and serious complications are uncommon. There is no specific anti-viral treatment for chikungunya fever available. Symptoms like headache and fever can be treated symptomatically. Hospital care is indicated in severe illnesses or if complications occur. First discovered in Africa in 1952. |
