RE: Master Program
From what i read here, tis mamak fella donno what he wants for his future. He thinks taking a MBA is just for a status but not to gain knowledge. With statement like "I want Cheap and Good MBA" ~??? Well, let me tell you a lil about my story.....Tongue

I finish form 5 in 85, went to Singapore in 1987. We was poor, all i have was Rm300.00. Started working there(in a electrical factory) for 1 year just to save enough money to enrol my first part time course which is a dip course in M&E' while i am still working to further support my studies. It took me 2 and a half year to finish the course. During this 2 and a half year, i managed to find a job in a related industry and i was sponsered a apprentice sholarship from this company. So, i am doing 3 thing at the same time, 2 course and work.

I believe you have guessed by now how i manage to survived those years, maggi mee abd roti~!!! No movies, no karaoke, nothing~!!! I endure all and i finished all my course. I found another job as an junior engineer and i TOOK up another course, Dip in Safety Engineering. This dip course is equivalents to a degree course as it required a Dip in order to take the course. It took me 3 years to complete it and it's not cheap. I work hard, study like no body business. Till today, i still donno how i did it when i think back but i know it is what i want. After i finish the safety course, i got a job as a safety officer. With this job, i save and did a lil investment but i did not stop studying, i continued to study on my own. I took up interest in financial and investment readings. I still remember i'll go all the way to Shenton Way to attend free seminars organised by financial institute and forex company. Working in the day and seeking knowledge in the night, not go kow lui or movies. I learn about investment and stocks till i am ready to invest. I played the forex game, bought a few blue chips, learned about Michale Fay and George Soros. I burnt myself a few times but that did not stop me from pursuing my dream. I did have my glorious days too , like when i gain some return from my investment and the yearly bonus time from my company, 6.5 month bonus~!!!
I work, i invest, i seek knowledge and most important of all, i saved some of my earnings. Came back to M'sia in 1999, celebrated millenium for a year and start my fishing business on 1st of Jan 2000. Took me a good 5 years to build up my business with all kind of obstacles. My shop was open on the first day of CNY for 5 years, no holidays~!!! Taught my wife how to run the business and i went on to further seek my knowledge, IT. The very first lap top i bought was serviced by Lee Kim Chuan. I don't even know how to 'ON' my lap top that time. LKC at that time couldn't be bothered to tell me what problem with my lap top because he knows i do not understand what he's talking about(drivers and stuff). Well, that did not stop me from pursuing what i am seeking. I do not know who to turn to for help when i encounter problem with my lappy. I learn them by trial and error, until i met Kimmy.
Kimmy came to my rescue, he show me something in Photoshop that i do not know. It took me 2-3 weeks to learn the function and of course, i've showed you guys the results. Then Kimmy showed me something else during installing a video editing software, about some s****d error in Vista. I saw him when to war with the computer, i sat there quitely observing till the problem was solved. Then, i reformatted my comp, and the s****d vista error came back. I did what Kimmy taught me and the problem was solved, amazing(at least to me). I do not want to be labeled as 'Ketingallan Zaman' so i keep on learning but all this while, i still do a lil investment and assist my wife on the fishing business.
You see, learning is not a about a piece of papar, it's about knowledge gain. I find many people nowadays that would say the hold certain MBA or PHD but can't even tell me where does the tide(seawater) goes when low tide. I can easily find rich millionaires with a PHD and a heart problem around me but i can't find a single person who knows CPR around him(except me). I know a few ppl who won the lottery before but now gotto come to me to borrow money. Why~???

Set your priority, know what you what before you seek it. With this, you'll have the correct mindset to do what you what to do. After that, analise it. See the important in whatever you are seeking. Some would want to be a famous F1 driver, some would want to be a movie star and some would want to become a Tan Sri. Just make sure you are in the right path heading towards your goal. Please do not tell me that you want to become rich so you invest in 4D, toto etc. That's gambling and i've read in somewhere that says winning the 4D is harder that you becoming Bill Gates.

So nicemamak, all the best to you and may the force be with you.....Tongue

nwbfromklang Wrote:well 35k is seriously not a small amount....

but i've did a few enquiries sometime ago....and well there are some which are more affordable.... can't remember which in specific though...coz i was enquiring both Masters and MBA programme.... most of them sits in between 20 to 30k... even local private colleges...

however, cost is only 1 of the factors in pursuing post grad studies..... one should also consider their commitment level to it....like some mentioned here..u'll need to spend lotsa time studying cases, reading up plus your work experiences...

that's probably y....i'm still not going for it 'yet'.... sigh

KK. Thanks for sharing your experience. This adds to my knowledge and from the look of it, procrastination is the first thing to go on my "Attitude to Throw List". Big Grin
