Line Dancing
I was checking out chilipadi's HappyFeet website and found out she is rather a... DANCER! I'm quite excited for it. It's time we get some free tutorial on Line dancing. Forummers, please ask all the question you want to know about LIne dancing.

Q1 - Can explain to us what is Line dancing and what is the difference compare to other dancing?

p/s: However, a pic posted here will ease our curiosity too.

Thanks sweetie for visiting MyHappyFeet's webby. It is my little cyber playground; and if you have read 'Someting About Us' - you would soon gather that line dance is the only activity that I indulge to curb my ever expanding waistline and ballooning weight.

No problem to give FOC tutorial. In fact, there is a HappyFeet Stew brewing up....and here's the deal - all myklang.com forumers who actively meet up whenever Kimmy organises will get free invitations to my upcoming March Mania Dance Fiesta. My international dance instructors (also friends) will be holidaying here; so you all will be treated to free beginner dance fun. Now, how does that sound?

Meanwhile, to your question: what is LD and how is it different to other types of dances? Ahem..you have just asked a mortal who is very passionate about this subject - and about to launch into hours long of chat about this. But so that I don't get kicked out from forum - here is an abridged version - and I will tackle it from the angle - why line dance?

Because it

Is great fun
Is good for your health
Is a great way to socialize
Reduces stress
Improves coordination abilities
Boost your energy levels
Has no age limit
Done without a partner
Has no set costume requirements
Is easy to learn!

And who can do it?

YOU can
YOUR CHILDREN can
YOUR PARENTS can
YOUR GRANDPARENTS can.

It is a great fun and wholesome activity for the whole family!

As for pix...let me dig into my archive for one that shows me more favourably.

kimmy Wrote:First question. What is the history of line dancing?

Wow, tough question. I was lucky to score P8 for my history subject a couple of decades ago.

But good question nevertheless.

Here you go:

• Line Dancing has been around since 1970s and is the second most popular extracurricular activity in the world.
• Line Dancing has stood the test of time and is now coming into its own as a recognized dance format.
• It is so versatile as it uses anything from soul, R&B, country, new country and country rock, rock, pop, form jive from the 50s to latest pop and album chart-toppers together with music from around world including Latin, salsa and more…
• And because it is an excellent aerobic exercise in dancing form (improving balance, strength, muscle tone while increasing energy, reducing stress whilst lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels) which is lots of fun and easy to learn for all ages, Line Dancing is set to make big waves in Malaysia (as in other parts of the world).

No special dress attire is required; just good walking/dance shoes and comfortable clothing. There is no discrimination as to sex, age - line dance is one thing for everybody.

The emphasis in the class is always on having FUN and to destress. Anybody who thought they are three-left footed or 1-legged will be proven wrong.

Sorry to dissapoint you that this is not a history lesson. Let me validate the facts I have gathered 5 years ago and will post the unchallenged history in coming days.

RE: Line Dancing
Cos ladies are more vain and guy usually like hip hop and not some sissy dance like line dancing. Plus, like I say, the one held at the garden got lots of aunties. You think guy will dare to join them? (I can't imagine seeing a guy swinging his hip. rofl)

RE: Line Dancing
Ah, line dancing is so much misunderstood.

Though it was believed to have originated in the 'Wild West', line dance's current popularity grew out of disco period - created by the release of Saturday Night Fever in 1977. Think John Travolta!

Macarena and Chicken Dance are technically line dances!

Yes, most padangs are swamped by aunties. However, what you see at the padangs is only a small fraction of line dance community.

Most of us who go for social events, competitions, etc - learn in social clubs, dance clubs and ballrooms worldwide. Yup - within closed doors/classrooms - and usually by qualified instructors who teach proper execution of dance steps on proper floorings (very very important for our fragile knees joints) to myriad of music - samba, funky, latin, rock & roll, etc etc etc.

And ooooh....you should have seen how we drool at those cool hunks who definitely are no sissies. Like Simon Ward who is coming this September - ah - a real man - both on and off the dance floors...must send you all the links to all the you-tubes and you can feast on Guyton, Barry, Maurice, Tony..the list goes on...

My pleasure to give you a blogger pass :-) So Kimmy - don't be misguided - go on, sign up for line dance classes. By next March, you can be one of my invited instructors to show HijackQueen a thing or two.
