RE: Internet Service Provider
I am required to work from home at night sometimes. Therefore I need fast internet access to support remote conferencing. My last option will be streamyx land line, because I try to cut the hassle of installing phone line.
Izzy agent have tested at my house, and the connection is very unstable. Can't even connect. So, my question is: Anyone in Bandar Botanic who is using wireless broadband? Kindly reply or pm me. Thx. |

For my house, the signal is not good.. only about 100kbps. I've tested near the shoplots... around there it is 300kbps. Don't know about other areas. If you like, let me know and I can lend you my modem to test the speed in your area. They have a 7 day return policy, but I think you might end up losing the RM100 activation fee. Good luck ! rgds, Geraldine |

RE: Internet Service Provider
Geraldine, thx for your info and offer. I did called Maxis callcentre yesterday and they told me there's no coverage for the said postcode. I guess they just don't wanna do business huh.
So just now I pestered a maxis employee I know to ask more. Seems like as long as there is coverage, even if it's low, the RM100 will not be refundable. Anyway, even if it's 500kbps is still too slow for my usage. So I guess Maxis is out for me. And I think Digi's highest speed is also 384kbps. Correct me if I'm wrong. Celcom people say there's coverage at BB. Anyone using celcom RM98 package (3.6mbps)? Or any 3G (1mbps and above) package? Wah...Pooh88, I don't even know u guys or even KK. ![]() Me not thick skin enough to be pestering him...hahaha. |

RE: Internet Service Provider
Sometime last year my bro-in-law checked the celcom coverage in BB. Was only up to GPRS. I don't know how it is now. Streamyx has wireless coverage too, but I'm not sure if they cover BB.
Good luck in your search Pls let us know if you find a good ISP here

RE: Internet Service Provider
What I've found out is, Maxis -> very low signal, Izzy -> inconsistent signal/no connection.
Celcom has coverage, but don't know the signal quality. After all these researching and consideration, I've decided to get the wired broadband. Why? Because.... According to my sources, Botanic area has very bad or inconsistent coverage for wireless broadband due to the location which is at the most corner of the town. Maybe low speed packages is ok, but highend wireless is definitely an issue. Additional info for you guys: If using wireless frequently, the wave from the modem will cause health problems, because the wireless modem is right next to you plugged to your laptop. My friend has headache frequently when using wireless. Change to wired --> headache stopped. So, you be the judge. There's a streamyx combo package, where the monthly phone rental is waived. I am considering this. http://202.71.97.48/streamyx_combo/about.asp |

RE: Internet Service Provider
I'm a user for Maxis Broadband. No issue about the headache. I'm in Tmn Klg Jaya though. But since I don't do heavy downloading, I use it for basic surfing/chatting/forum posting. Once in a while I do radio streaming too. Video streaming can be done too. The signal at my place is not that strong, but for my basic applications can still be done. I'm getting about average 300 kbps DL...considering it's only 3G, so this is actually quite acceptable with the weak signal.
For further info on Maxis broadband: http://www.maxis.com.my DiGi max speed at 384kbps ...at best effort basis also. The same applies with any telco provider for wireless broadband. And DiGi will be rolling out their 3G services soon. Something to look forward to also besides WiMax. For further info on DiGi news and products: http://www.digi.com.my P1 Wimax coverage would start from the main city (KL)... so have to wait for them to expand to Klang. But the "jalur lebar tanpa wayar" thing from P1 is only for areas of puchong n subang for now. Don't think they have expanded to Klang yet. For further info on P1: http://www.p1.com.my Another new player has registered themselves. U-Mobile. Quite impressive new plans they have. But very vague on the coverage area. They just mentioned "Klang". No specific area. Offering a package cost RM78. Seems like a good bargain. But be warned. T&C applies and new players would have things to be doubtful for. I think I want to wait-and-see for this one too. For further info: http://www.u.com.my Undeniably, Streamyx, given the reputation for providing broadband services, is the better choice among the lot. My experience with them wasn't that good, that's why I'm on wireless broadband at home. And considering the portability factor at the same time. But I think what streamyx need is a good competition. With competition comes improvement and lower prices. It was too costly back then knowing there's only Jaring to compete with. So good luck in choosing the right choice for ur WWW exploration purpose. |

RE: Internet Service Provider
well Streamyx will still be the best choice around...
look at it this way, they are provided by TM net, which are own by TM, who at the same time pratically owns the telecommunication backbone in this country.... no doubt other service providers are catching up in offering broadband services....but their subcribers will be paying a higher price... (indirectly covering part of the cost goes back to TM who shares them the backbone)... hehe |

Actually all those farking monopolies control by TM Net is what u call democratic country!
![]() I'm sad to say that our G don't allowed any foreigner come in to outgun each other which can provide a better services for the consumer. We need other alternative cables line beside TMNET,we need a better services & ensure our connection is on par with other country.
