RE: Free Internet Access
Unsecured wireless network might be used by other to do illegal stuff...

If 'kena' caught, the owner of the wireless network will be in deep trouble even though the owner does not know even a bit or getting any benefit from the illegal activities...

Also, wireless network is like opening your house's door wide open and asking others to come in and take whatever there is to take...

RE: Free Internet Access
The sharing of Internet access is best to be practiced in condominiums. For linked houses, sharing could only be done 1 house away. For e.g. my neighbour and us are sharing the network. My neighbour bear the monthly telekom fees, I bear the monthly streamyx fees. Smile

Alexlim mentioned something which is true. The sharing of wireless access will open your machines to unscrupulous attack or virus infections from the machines sharing the network with you. However, a more powerful wireless access point will have segmentation of each connection. Which means, anyone connected will not be able to access the other person's machine without permission. This is usually practiced in corporate environment.

Sharing of wireless access will also render the subscriber in "hot soup" if the Internet access is misused. Any traffic going in and out from the shared Internet will be recorded as the subscriber's usage. A simple example metaphor is when you borrow your car to another person and that person were caught by speed camera. Who will get the "saman"? The registered car owner.

There is however some technologies which could enable wifi sharing:-

Hehe. My two cents.

Kurauking,

Standard windows have the tool to help you in setting up a secure wireless network. Just take some time to explore it as it can be found in the wireless network connection.

To be more secured, do not publish your network SSID....

But, no matter how many 'lock' that you put... There is always a 'tool' to 'unlock' it....

RE: Free Internet Access
Dont really know how to really setup the wifi but I do believe that having a "lock" or two is better than having non at all...
