RE: Alternative road to avoid jam near Klang bridge
I believe MPK/JKR/Contractors should provide alternate routes first before commencing the road upgrades..

Furthermore, they should only allow trucks and lorries other than been used for the construction of the new route to use the alternative road for a limited time.

Quote:KLANG motorists will have to bear with massive traffic jams for the next 18 months as a 600m stretch of a major road in the royal town is being closed to facilitate upgrading work.

The project involving a section of the major road leading into the town centre is to ease major traffic congestion.

According to Sungai Penang state assemblyman and State Assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim, the closure involves the stretch from Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim (near RHB Bank) to the Kota Bridge (near Mydin).
Cause of traffic congestion: Road works being carried out near the Kota Bridge in Klang.

Teng told reporters this after meeting representatives of the police, Klang Municipal Council, project consultant and contractors at his office in Shah Alam yesterday.

He said work on the project had started and would be completed only by December next year.

Teng said once the project was completed, motorists travelling between the southern side of Klang to the Sungai Rasah toll would be able to bypass Klang town for a faster and smoother drive.

“I hope all road users will be patient while the piling and construction work for a flyover are being carried out,” he said.

“More than 200,000 motorists enter the town daily from the Federal Highway, thus the project to upgrade the Klang end of the highway is necessary to cater to the increasing traffic volume,” he said.
Intent lot: Teng (centre) at a discussion with representatives of the police, Klang Municipal Council, project consultant and contractors at his office in Shah Alam.

Teng said only the two inner lanes on each side of the Klang section of the highway would be closed while the two outer lanes on both sides would remain open.

He also announced that the Jalan Batu Tiga stretch from Bulatan 100 to Jalan Pasar and Jalan Nanas junctions would be turned into one-way street from May 21.

“The one-way street, with four lanes, is a temporary measure to help traffic flow and will allow motorists to avoid the heavy traffic along the Federal Highway while the work is going on,” he said.

“The one-way street will be in operation a week after piling starts to ensure a smooth change and May 21 is the best time to do this because there will be less traffic during school holidays,” he said.

Teng advised motorists to follow the instructions from the traffic police and to follow the signboards that would be put up.

He said the project to upgrade Federal Highway 5 from Kapar to Klang would cost RM32mil and would take more than a year to complete.

“Contractors are facing problems with the shifting tides in the Klang river and this is delaying the drainage work,” he said.

“The tides have forced the contractors to cut working time from eight hours to just four hours on most days,” he said.

Teng also said more changes to the road system in the town would be introduced in stages in the near future to provide better traffic flow and ease congestion.

RE: Alternative road to avoid jam near Klang bridge
i stay @ sentosa (south klang) and work @ subang.

my current (only) option to avoid the morning jam is to leave my house by 6.30am, go to KEC club for swim/exercise G-weight-lift-01, bath/get ready and leave from KEC at 8.00am.

if i should leave my house at 7.30am, i'll reach my office almost the same time or sometimes later than when i leave from KEC at 8.00am. the jam at the banting road till the sg.rasa toll is really a TIME KILLER !!! G-mad-1 sama-sama if i use Kesas...
