RE: Klang people pay attention!!!
Parts of Federal Highway to be closed for upgrading works

SHAH ALAM: Parts of the Federal Highway in Klang town will be closed to traffic for one-and-a-half-years to give way to the upgrading project to ease major traffic congestion in the town.

Sungai Penang state assemblyman Teng Chang Khim said the closure of the 600m stretch from Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim (near RHB Bank) to the Kota Bridge (near Mydin) would be from May 15 this year till December next year.

Once the project was completed, he said, motorists travelling between the southern side of Klang to the Sungai Rasah toll would be able to avoid Klang town for a smoother drive.

"I hope all road users will be patient while the piling and construction works for a flyover are being carried out.
"More than 200,000 motorists use the four-lane Federal Highway to get in and out of Klang town daily, thus the project to upgrade the road is necessary to cater to the increasing traffic volume," he said.

He added that only the two inner lanes on each side of the Federal Highway would be closed while the two outer lanes on both sides would remain open.

Teng, who is also state assembly speaker, was speaking to reporters Wednesday after meeting representatives from the police, Klang Municipal Council, project consultant and contractors at his office here.
Teng also announced that the Jalan Batu Tiga stretch from Bulatan 100 to the Jalan Pasar and Jalan Nanas junctions would be turned into a one-way street from May 21.

"The one-way street, with four lanes, is a temporary measure to help traffic flow and will allow motorists to avoid the heavy traffic along the Federal Highway while the works are going on.

"The one-way street will start one week after piling starts to ensure a smooth change and May 21 is the best time to do this because there will be less traffic during the school holidays," he said.

Teng advised motorists to follow the instructions from the traffic policemen on duty and also signboards that would be put up.

The project, to upgrade Federal Highway 5 from Kapar to Klang costing RM32mil, would take more than a year to complete to ensure quality results, he said.
